Upgrade from the stock Toyota Tacoma, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser GX470 steering rack to the beefy 2nd Gen Toyota Tundra Rack and Pinion.
The Toyota Steering Rack Upgrade is the perfect solution for the 2005-2021 Tacoma, 2003-2021 4Runner, 2007-2014 FJ Cruiser, and 2003-2009 GX470. The factory Tacoma rack and pinion is prone to failure with heavy off-roading. As most people run 35″- 40″ tires the stock rack and pinion is one major weak point.
We modify the 2007+ Tundra rack and pinion to replace your factory rack and pinion. The reason we modify the Tundra R&P is it being the biggest rack and pinion that Toyota makes, and is relatively easy to install. We machined the inner shaft to match the Tacoma specs. We bump the line pressure to help turn big 37″+ off-road tires. To withstand high oil temperatures, new Viton seals are professionally installed.
The factory Tacoma rack uses a 30 mm shaft compared Tundra rack which uses a huge 38 mm shaft!
2007+ Factory Tundra steering tie rods will not work for this application. We recommend using our 17-4 Stainless Steel Machined Tie Rods and Machined Inner Clevis for a bullet proof setup.
The Toyota Steering Rack Upgrade is a fully rebuilt rack and pinion ready to be installed!
NEW Cam Bushings are provided to allow for a easy install. These bushings keep the factory mounting points on the cross member. No more cutting out the old barrels. We will still provide the stock rubber bushings if you do not want to using the cam bushings.
This is not a direct bolt in and requires fabrication skills to install. The frame will need to be notched for steering shaft.
